This bird was seen from my garden today...
I hope these zoomed record photos can help someone somewhere? I don't know this ring system.
The bird was quite flighty and I have no scope.
Could be old faded/overexposed red & blue something?or pink & baby blue?

ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog since your wonderful waxwing encounters last year. Some of those lovely birds made it all the way to us on the south coast, my first view of them. A few are still lurking around Dorset even now.
I might be able to help with your ringed wagtail, I had one in my garden during the Big Garden birdwatch in January and managed to find those running the ringing projects. Try this website, http://www.cr-birding.be/ and it would seem sensible to email colourringing@bto.org with your pictures and what you could see.
These put me in touch with the co-ordinator for three ringing projects for pied wagtails in Slapton Ley, South Devon, Weymouth/Abbotsbury, Dorset (my local area) and East Kilbride, Scotland.
My bird, also with a pink ring plus two split colour ones on the other leg, turned out to have been ringed in Weymouth in 2009, but they have turned up in Scotland. I was told "the pink ring above it is the year marker - pink 2009, the two split colour rings of white over light blue over white over orange"

This bird was actually X889887, ringed at the roost at Abbotsbury Swannery, Dorset, on 22 September 2009 - a really nice movement!
